Brief:

TREKKING INTO SABAH’S  LOST WORLD

Participants: Group of  8 (Adult Trip)
No Vehicle: 2 x 4WD
Package Cost:  6N7D - RM900.00 person with Group Insurance Coverage. Inclusive Forest Ranger, radio communication and transportation only. Own food rations. Transfer:  KK / Keningau / Maliau / Keningau / KK  (by Land)

Day 1      -      Leave KK 6:00am. Pick up at Chua Kah Seng Supermarket, Donggongon
Penampang. (8 hrs off road to Agathis Camp Maliau). 4 pax per vehicle. Arrive Agathis Camp before dinner. A night ride. Enjoy the ride!! Overnight at Agathis. (Night ride is not included in the package)

Day 2      -      Trek up to Camel Trophy Station in the Maliau Basin South Plateau (5 hrs). Enjoy the trek up and observe the changes in the forest vegetation as you make the slow ascend. You will be going through 3 types of forest vegetation. Overnight at the Camel Trophy Station. It has 3 rooms, a veranda upstairs, kitchen area, basic dinning facilities, “unlimited air-conditioning”, and a flash toilet downstairs. You may have to take your bath at the river, or just wet towel wash! The water is ice cold!!

Day 3      -      Start very early to day trek to Takob-akob and Giluk fall (60 minutes from the Camel Station). Enjoy and do not hurry. May involve river crossing a few times (ready to get wet, wet, wet!). Return to Camel Station after lunch. On clear sky – Star gazing at the camel hut. Overnight Camel Trophy.

Day 4      -      Trek to Lobah Camp (6 hours). Overnight at Lobah.

Day 5      -      Trek down to Maliau Fall – slow and steady (1 hour trek down to the fall 1.5 hr  back up to the camp). Pack up personal kit and leave for Ginseng Camp. Overnight at Ginseng Camp – 1.5 hr trek back from Lobah camp.

Day 6      -      Return to Agathis. Start really early (6 hrs trekking out of Maliau Basin to Agathis camp) Overnight at Agathis Camp. A night ride is allowed for those who were not challenged (after 6 days of trekking). Expense not included in package.

Group Two arrived in Agathis.

Day 7      -      Group One return to KK

Training session begins immediately upon intention to make the trip.  2 rest days before departure to  conserve energy.

Any cancellation of trip after paying in full may request refund. 10% will be deducted from total amount to compensate for displacement of group number package cost, else introduce a replacing member to regain 100% refund (provide your account no. for the refund).
 
All participants must do a schedule physical training session for at least 2 weeks daily (emphasizing leg works, stamina and shoulder) towards the commencement of the departure of the program. This training is necessary to make the expedition a personal success for each individual. If you are not fit, you will be stuck at the first camp for the rest of the week. Any cost incurred during training session of participants is not included in the package.

Expedition Checklist:

Maliau is about 16 – 19 degree Celsius in the night. 26 – 31 degree in the day. Mostly steep, rugged and very humid. Water in the wild is tannin in color (Chinese tea!), and it needs to be boiled or purify before drinking. If you have a portable purifier, such those you can buy from cosway, that is very good to bring.

1.      2 season sleeping bag (average thickness else too bulky)
2.      A set of Mess tins (for cooking food and as eating implements)
3.      2 Water bottles (water reserves while trekking)
4.      Your Personal Medical Kit (we only have basic / general first aid supplies)
5.      Addidas Kampung plastic shoes are good and train in it! (to avoid blisters in Maliau)
      You may use other shoes if you wish but this is advisable.
6.      Personal sundry Kit (in small portion containers)
7.      1st packing of Clothes (for trekking)
1 pair for trekking (cotton baggy pants, not Jeans)
1 pair for sleeping in (warm outfit – long sleeves and track pants)
1 pair reserve in case your sleeping pairs got wet.
A pair of Slipper (if you wish)
 2 pair of cotton socks
 A bath towel (for man)
 A cotton sarong and an average size face towel (for ladies)
      2nd packing
 2 pairs of clean clothes (to be left at Agathis camp) to change into returning home!
A pair of clean socks, bath towel, clean pair of shoes, etc
8.      Please pack along  your own food for 6 days. You will need to trek with 5
days rations.
9.      Camera, film & batteries. Digital may work but only for a day or two until its charges last. Better to bring manual cameras; unless you don’t mind extra weight.
10.      Keep all (every group of items) of your personal belonging in a plastic bag before you pack into       the big back pack. This is to ensure you won’t get anything wet in the bag while trekking. You really need them dry.
11      A pair or two of Leech Socks. (At RM15.00).
12.      A cap and a scarf
13.      A pair of cotton gloves
14.      A mobile phone can be used in Maliau (certain area)
15.      Insect repellents / Candle for lights and fire starter /Torch & batteries
16.      A game to share for evening leisure
17.      Anything else is optional…….

19.       Your rugsack (big backpack must be at least 65L to contain everything you need for week)..
20.      Porters can be requested in advance but bear in mind that it would cost RM30.00 per kg from       Agathis Camp to Camel Trophy hut only. If you want him porter throughout the visit … you may       inform me in advance (so he can pack his own food) and you can negotiate his wage personally when you get to Agathis Camp.

Please Note: Your tent and bedding sleeves will be distributed to you by Maliau store, but you will have to carry it. This is an extra 1 kg but the most essential after food and water!
